2010 Summer Anti-Catalogue
We’ve had some amazing sightings out there in the wild, these days.
An upcoming film called Grassroots was spotted filming one of our Workman’s kilts at the Rebar in Seattle and sent us some teaser images.
Grassroots: True story. A short-tempered, unemployed music critic who likes to dress as a polar bear thinks he can harness the power of the people to ride the monorail to political victory in Seattle. And he’s right. Almost.
It’s before Twitter, before the flash mob, before Obama. It’s 2001, and political unknown Grant Cogswell decides he must take down Seattle City Councilman Richard McIver. Grant has only one dream, but it’s a big one: an elegant monorail gliding silently above the city’s wet streets, with only a tiny footprint – “like a kids’ lemonade stand!” – on the ground. He is apoplectic with rage over McIver’s mass transit proposal: a ground rail train he thinks will destroy lower class neighborhoods, wreak environmental harm on the local salmon population, and destroy the city.
Grant has no campaign contributors, a tendency toward outbursts of profanity, and a snowball’s chance in hell – until he lures recently fired alternative-weekly reporter Phil Campbell to run his campaign. Phil may be a political neophyte, but he has the tact that Grant lacks and a ‘what- the-hell-I-haven’t-got-anything-better-to-do’ attitude…until he recruits an army of wild-eyed young volunteers to back their unlikely crusade, and the impossible begins to happen.
GRASSROOTS is a character-driven comedy about the power of the people and the virtues of standing up for what you believe in. Against all odds.
It’s politics. But not as usual.
Be on the lookout for the release of the film!
Additionally, a Mister Scott Shriner of a little band that you might have heard of named Weezer is now rumored to be sporting a Survival Utilikilt, with some of our fantastic celtic weave socks, no less.
Scott sent us a message to say that he’s received nothing but positive comments on his kilts and that he’s fallen victim to the Utilikilt Addiction and will be the proud owner of another, very soon. If you happen to be in Seattle for Bumbershoot, wear your kilt (or buy one from our booth headed by the amazing VooDoo Stew!), go hear Weezer play, and show Scott what it means to be a part of the Utiliclan!
You can catch a kilted Scott on Weezer’s upcoming tour and Weezer’s new album “Hurley” in stores 9/14. Check out their new single “Memories”!
In LA earlier this month, friends and Utilikiltarians Rob and Beau enjoyed their freedom on the red carpet premier for their animated series The Scottish Ninjas. Here’s their report:
Hola Jenneviere! I have plenty of info for you! :-) So Rob Mullin and myself went to LA for the Independent TV Festival. It’s a festival for television pilots and web series produced outside of the studio system. We decided to use that venue as the LA premiere of our Scottish Ninjas cartoon. During the opening night gala, Rob and myself wore our utilikilts to the red carpet event as it allowed us to kill two birds with one stone by looking dapper while still branding us as the “Scottish Ninjas Creators”. Plus, being the only ones in kilts, we got instant recognition. It was great marketing for both our toon and Utilikilt. I guess the fancy book-learned folk call that “synergy”. :-) We had quite a few people come up to us during the event to tell us they love Utilikilts and some even claimed to be closet Utilikilt owners…which seems to contradict the philosophy of the Utilikilt culture. We also wore our kilts during our screening along with our Scottish Ninjas tshirts. Again, instantly making us recognizable in a sea of cargo shorts, and flip flops.
If you’re surfin’ around the interwebs, wondering what to check out next, maybe stumble on over to a new friend of ours, Norseman.
Norseman has a youtube channel for videos he’s made of survivalist training and, in his own words, “How to do important stuff to reduce your dependency on the system.” He also submits vids to the Wilderness Outfitters channel, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you might just see a review of his Survival kilt posted soon.
Norseman has been enjoying the everloving shit out of his new Survival, and he’s got the photos to prove it. Check out some of the amazing things he’s doing in his Utilikilt, then go and subscribe to his video channel on youtube!
