Oregon Buyer Advisory Guide

Give us an overview of your business…

I am Adam Bogle and I am a Realtor in Ashland, Oregon. I specialize in residential real estate and cover all of Jackson County, which includes Medford, Jacksonville and Eagle Point. My company is an independently owned branch of Coldwell Banker. While Coldwell Banker is nationally recognized as being a large company, our branch is run more like a boutique shop, with only a few agents.

I also specialize in interviewing and referring Realtors across the country that are professional, open minded, fun and good at their jobs. I have an extensive list of agents from Florida to Washington that I have already interviewed, so if you are looking to purchase or sell a property anywhere in the country, the Agent In A Kilt can find the right Realtor to help you. Remember me as your first stop when thinking about real estate.

Who wears kilts at your company?

At this moment, myself, and my assistant wear kilts. I have also been compiling a list of home service providers in the area that are kilt wearers. Handymen, Well Drillers, Landscapers, etc….. If you live in Jackson County, wear a kilt, and want to be added to my list, please get hold of me by phone or email.

Why do you wear a kilt at work?

Why do I wear a kilt at work? Because the alternative would be to wear pants, and that is just not an option.

So let me tell you what it does for me. I am in a business that is probably 50% marketing. I can’t help someone if I can’t talk to them. My profession is helping people with transferring large investments, and personal ones. I am very good at it, but I can’t show that to someone to whom I have never talked to. My business is much more involved than driving people around and unlocking door. That is a very small piece of a big puzzle and there is no puzzle until you have clients.

The kilt is a GREAT marketing tool, and being in one of the most competitive businesses that there is, it gives me a way to stand out. A very few of the examples are:

  • Once I was in Las Vegas at a conference, and I was approached by a Realtor from Montana who was told to look for me by a Realtor they knew in Utah.
  • I share an office with some Realtors who are prominent in Oregon politics, and they have told me many occasions where they are off at some meeting in the state, and someone will mention, “I hear there is this Realtor in Ashland who always wears a kilt.”
  • I was at the office the other day, and one of my colleague’s clients wanted to take a picture of me to send to their friend in Florida.
  • I am asked multiple times a week, “Are you the Realtor?”

What it does for me:

  • It weeds out the uptight people that I wouldn’t want to work with.

  • Obviously everyone remembers me.
  • I get the catchy website www.AgentInAKilt.com
  • Free press. I have been interviewed by publications such as Sunset Magazine, the Portland Business Journal, The Oregonian, and even the Scotsman paper from Edinburgh, Scotland.

The downside is my memory is not good enough to remember everyone who remembers me. People whom I have met one time start up conversations with me, leaving me to scramble through the recesses of my brain cells to try to remember where I know them from.

I have many stories to tell about wearing a kilt at work, and they are pretty much all positive, and/or amusing.
