Give us an overview of your business…

UtiliKris, LLC is a Handyman Service in Cincinnati, Ohio, owned and operated by Chris Wiedeman. UtiliKris does all aspects of home and business repairs including small additions. (The only exceptions being roofing and heating/air conditioning.) The sole craftsman of the company, Chris Wiedeman learned the basics of the construction trades while serving as a Steelworker in the US Navy SeaBees. After completing his obligation Mr. Wiedeman attended the University of Cincinnati and obtained his Bachelors degree in construction management along with an Associates in Liberal Arts. During and after college Mr. Wiedeman worked as a commerical project engineer and superintendent for Centex Rooney Construction and Venture One Construction. Due to the pace and stresses of commercial construction management Mr. Wiedeman eventually decided that a slower more manageable life style was in order. Having always enjoyed the hands on aspect of the construction trades Chris began working on side jobs doing home and commercial construction. Eventually enough job offers we coming in to take on a Handyman service full time and he incorporated as UtiliKris, LLC after calling the Utilikilts company ensuring that the name was not an issue with them.

Who wears kilts at your company?

Mr. Wiedemans wife Nicki introduced him to Utilikilts (UKs) in late 2005. She had heard about them due to her extensive interest in pop culture and things on the leading edge of it. When Mr. Wiedeman first checked out the web site for UKs he was hooked and ordered his first Workmans Kilt that day. He now owns four of them (two Workmans, an Original and a Mocker for nights out) and is expecting to purchase a new one in the near future.

Why do you wear a kilt at work?

I love the out-of-the-norm status being seen in a UK confers upon me. When I first started wearing the UK I was a bit shy about all the attention it garnered – very few people walk by without a second glance and many women make flattering comments. The UK is all about Utility, lots of tool pouches and straps on the Workmans kilt along with the modesty snaps make it the perfect garment for a Handyman. I also love being at the leading edge of a movement that is sure to keep growing and become the norm one day. And “No one forgets the Handyman in the Kilt.”
